Rapper Chris Smith Jr., better known by his stage name Smino, was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on October 2, 1991. At the age of seven, his father gifted him a set of drums, which he used to play in the band at his church. He also started rapping. Chris Smith and his friend Bari Allen performed as “Young Dumb and Outta Control” (YROC) in St. Louis, where they also dropped a mixtape of the same name. They began to become well-known in their hometown but struggled to release their songs internationally. After dropping his debut solo mixtape, SMEEZY DOT COMi], Smino returned to Chicago. He met engineer Chris “Classik” Inumerable at Columbia College Chicago. He became close to Chris and he is currently his manager.Later, on the encouragement of his older cousin, singer Drea Smith, he relocated to Chicago, Illinois for college. He put out two EPs in 2015, S!Ck S!Ck S!Ck and Blkjuptr.
