Royce’s career has been marked by both conflicts and collaborations. He had a public feud with Eminem’s group D12, releasing two diss tracks against them. Despite this, he continued to develop his solo career.

In 2003, Royce contributed several tracks to the Grand Theft Auto III video game soundtrack through Game Recordings. After serving a prison sentence, he reemerged in 2007 with the critically acclaimed mixtape “The Bar Exam,” working closely with DJ Premier and Statik Selektah.

Following this, Royce announced an upcoming album executive produced by DJ Premier. He clarified in an Elemental Magazine interview that Premier wouldn’t produce the entire album but would oversee the project and select all the beats.
