This episode, which is hosted at Hollywood’s Sphere Studios, delves deeply into the art and science of capturing, enhancing, and evoking a voice performance. Making reference to the multi-track vocal session of Why Don’t We’s “For You,” Harrell auditions the demo tape, offers his feedback, and then explains how he tracked and produced the song. He walks you through each section of the complex pop vocal, which consists of five male leads, harmonies, octave doubles, and ad-libs. He offers technical and musical feedback on the project, covering a wide range of topics including plug-ins, tracking chains, stacking, tuning, melodies, and structure. In addition to sharing the essential components of his process, Kuk shares his knowledge on the psychological and sociological aspects of getting the most out of artists as they work in the studio.
