Rapper Cordae, who is located in Maryland, is well-known for his energetic buzz and deep storytelling. Cordae, who was initially a member of the brief YBN collective, gained notoriety with the viral hits “My Name Is” and “Old N*ggas,” the first of which sampled Eminem’s 1999 breakthrough song and the latter of which was a response to J. Cole’s “1985.”

Cordae, who was initially a member of the brief YBN collective, gained notoriety with the viral hits “My Name Is” and “Old N*ggas,” the first of which sampled Eminem’s 1999 breakthrough song and the latter of which was a response to J. Cole’s “1985.” After releasing these songs, which are excellent representations of Cordae’s intricate lyricism, adaptable flows, and keen technical abilities, he quickly released original songs like “Scotty Pippen” and “Kung Fu.” His skill attracted the attention of previous generations of rap superstars as well as hordes of admirers. In addition to receiving praise from 50 Cent in public, well-known figures including as Gucci Mane and Wiz Khalifa made guest appearances on Cordae’s 2018 joint album YBN: The Mixtape, which featured YBN Almighty Jay and YBN Nahmir. His second studio album, From a Birds Eye View, was released in 2022, after his Grammy-nominated debut album, The Lost Boy, made a significant breakthrough the previous year. Both albums rose to the Billboard chart’s Top 20. With the 2023 song “Doomsday” (with Lyrical Lemonade and Juice WRLD), he resumed his charting career.

Born Cordae Dunston in 1997, Cordae spent her childhood in Suitland, Maryland. Taking inspiration from renowned rap artists like Nas and Talib Kweli, he began releasing songs under the alias Entendre when he was a youngster and started rapping. He put out three mixtapes under the moniker Entendre between 2014 and 2017, but he didn’t really take rap seriously until he moved to Los Angeles and joined buddies YBN Nahmir and YBN Almighty Jay to form the YBN (Young Boss N*ggas) collective at the start of 2018. Under the stage name YBN Cordae, he gained popularity all year long with original songs like “Fighting Temptations” and a lightning-fast freestyle on the L.A. Leakers interview program that attracted millions of listeners. In addition to producing his own music and videos, Cordae worked on joint projects with YBN and gave live performances as both a solo artist and a member of the group.

He released the singles “RNP” featuring Anderson.Paak and “Bad Idea” featuring Chance the Rapper in 2019. His official full-length debut, The Lost Boy, featured both of these tracks. The album, which was released that summer, also had Pusha T, Meek Mill, and Ty Dolla $ign as special guests. Later on in the year, Cordae was nominated for two Grammy Awards: Best Rap Song (“Bad Idea”) and Best Rap Album (The Lost Boy). With the sudden breakup of the YBN group in 2020, he removed the YBN from his stage name. Following a few joint projects and the release of his solo single “The Parables,” he made a comeback in 2021 with the release of the EP Just Until…., which included appearances by Q-Tip and Young Thug. Later that year, he and Common penned the reflective ballad “What’s Life,” in which he waxed lyrical. From a Birds Eye View, Cordae’s second studio full-length album, was made available in January 2022. Gunna, Lil Wayne, Eminem, H.E.R., and other artists were on the album, which debuted at number 13 on the Billboard list, similar to Cordae’s first release. In August, the single “Unacceptable” was released.

In 2023, Cordae worked with Anderson and was featured on NF’s “Careful.”Paak on the lighthearted track “Two Tens.” The song “Doomsday” by Lyrical Lemonade, which peaked at number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100, featured Cordae and Juice WRLD.
