Field Mob – Sick Of Being Lonely

Field Mob has made an effort to represent the nation, even if hip-hop takes pride in being the music of the streets. Born in Albany, GA, a little town south of Atlanta, Boondox (also known as Smoke) and Kalage (also known as Shawn Jay) are the descendants of soul great Ray Charles. The two came up with the moniker Field Mob in honor of the Field, a tiny section of Albany where they were raised.

After Boondox witnessed Kalage freestyle in the school courtyard, the two became friends in high school. The following day, Boondox challenged him to a fight, and they ultimately agreed to become partners. After signing a contract with a little independent label, the pair released their debut single, which MCA was interested in. Their debut album, 613: Ashy to Classy, was released in 2000 after they were swiftly signed to a deal by MCA. 613: Ashy to Classy was a professional effort with good production and witty lyrics, despite their youth and inexperience. From tha Roota to tha Toota, the 2002 follow-up, which saw the Georgia natives working with Trick Daddy and getting closer to the OutKast-esque production work they alluded to in their debut, is comparable in that regard. The two young people have proudly displayed their country roots while proving they can hold their own against the best hip-hop talent. Their debut album on Geffen, Light Poles and Pine Trees, was out in 2006.
