Over the years, Sacramento rapper Mozzy has developed into one of the most significant figures in his generation of West Coast hip-hop. Mozzy transformed from an underground sensation to a global talent in the mid-2010s with a lyrical style that flowed easily from menacing to joyous, and musically rich instrumentals that evoked highlights from several stages of California rap production. With his contributions to the Black Panther soundtrack, Mozzy garnered even more recognition in 2018. In the middle of 2020, he released Beyond Bulletproof, his fifth and most popular studio album to date. It made it to the Top 50 on Billboard 200. He collaborated with Compton rapper YG on the mixtape Kommunity Service in 2021, which helped propel him back into the Top 100 of the US album chart. He also had success with a Top 20 solo set titled Untreated Trauma. He continued the run with Survivor’s Guilt in 2022 and Children of the Slums in 2024.

Born Timothy Patterson, he dropped the track “U Ain’t Ready Like Dat” in 2010 and started rapping under the moniker Lil Tim in 2004. He changed his moniker in 2011 when he released the album Money Means Mozzy. In 2013, he followed up with the DJ Fresh-hosted mixtape The Tonite Show. 2014 saw the release of four mixtapes, one of which, Free Mozzy, was released while the rapper was incarcerated on allegations of possessing illicit firearms. Gangland and Yellow Tape Activities arrived in 2015, and Beautiful Struggle and Mandatory Check were released under the Empire label in 2016. He participated in numerous joint projects that year with musicians including Philthy Rich, Juneonnabeat, E Mozzy, and Dutch Santana. He then released Fake Famous at the beginning of 2017, which had cameos by YFN Lucci, Iamsu!, E Mozzy, Celly Ru, YG, G-Eazy, Jadakiss, and numerous other artists. Following the release of Dreadlocks & Headshots with Gunplay and the collaborative song Can’t Fake the Real with Blac Youngsta, Mozzy released 1 Up Top Ahk, which made its debut in the Top 100 on the Billboard main album chart in the summer of 2017. Following their appearance on the #1 soundtrack of the movie Black Panther, Mozzy released “Nobody Knows” alongside Jay Rock and DCMBR. The Spiritual Conversations EP and the full-length Gangland Landlord were two of the album’s many releases in 2018. He also collaborated with Kae One on the Run It Up Activities (Team Player Records) set that year, which also included E Mozzy, Philthy Rich, and Jacka. Mozzy and Berner collaborated on the mixtape Slimey Individualz at the beginning of 2019. In May, Mozzy released the moving song “Legal Guardian/Guardian Angel,” which was a tribute to his grandmother. That year, a number of other joint endeavors were released, such as Blood Cuzzins, a compilation of music produced with Tsu Surf, and All Movements’ mixtape Members, which featured assistance from Raz Simone.
In May 2020, the fifth studio album Beyond Bulletproof was released, with guest performances by G Herbo, King Von, Polo G, and other artists. At number 43, the album debuted on the Billboard charts. A few months later, he made a comeback with a new set called Occupational Hazard, which included Wale, YFN Lucci, and many more. In its first week of release, the project peaked at number 100 on the Billboard charts. In September of that year, Mozzy made a solo comeback with ten songs from Untreated Trauma, a solo album, and a Lil Blood collaborative effort called Bloody Waters. In May 2022, “Tell the Truth,” a single featuring Shordie Shordie, was released ahead of his next tour.
