T-Pain – Can’t Believe It

Since he first became popular in the early 2000s, T-Pain has demonstrated his singing abilities, and his use of Auto-Tune had a worldwide ripple effect that defined particular genres of music for a whole generation. After releasing his eponymously named debut album, Rappa Ternt Sanga (2005), the Floridian quickly raced to the top of the Billboard 200 with Epiphany (2007), which featured the number one Hot 100 song, “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’).” In the ensuing years, T-Pain put out multiple albums of his own and contributed to many other songs, such as Jamie Foxx’s “Blame It” and Kanye West’s “Good Life,”

Since he first became popular in the early 2000s, T-Pain has demonstrated his singing abilities, and his use of Auto-Tune had a worldwide ripple effect that defined particular genres of music for a whole generation. After releasing his eponymously named debut album, Rappa Ternt Sanga (2005), the Floridian quickly raced to the top of the Billboard 200 with Epiphany (2007), which featured the number one Hot 100 song, “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’).” In the ensuing years, T-Pain put out multiple albums of his own and contributed to many other songs, such as Jamie Foxx’s “Blame It” and Kanye West’s “Good Life,” which were both nominated for Grammy Awards. By the time Happy Hour: The Greatest Hits was released in 2014, T-Pain had amassed five platinum hits. With his victory in the 2019 season of The Masked Singer and albums like as his 2023 covers CD, On Top of the Covers, which covers legendary songs originally sung by everyone from Sam Cooke to Black Sabbath, he has managed to maintain his status as an enduring cultural presence.

Faheem Najm, a native of Tallahassee, began his career as a rapper with the group Nappy Headz. He became a professional rapper as T-Pain while still a solo artist, with the release of his customized version of Akon’s “Locked Up,” “I’m Fucked Up.” After hearing it, Akon signed T-Pain to Konvict Muzik, a label funded by Jive and Zombie. Released in August 2005, T-Pain’s official debut single, “I’m Sprung,” which was self-written and produced, reached the Top Ten in both mainstream and R&B/hip-hop charts. The album Rappa Ternt Sanga was released in December of that year, backed by the hit track “I’m ‘n Luv (Wit a Stripper),” which was another Top Ten hit on several Billboard charts. T-Pain became known as a key breakthrough artist of the mid-2000s when the parent full-length album went gold and the two singles received RIAA platinum certifications.

Thr33 Rings
This wasn’t an isolated incident. Over the ensuing years, T-Pain’s hits persisted despite the growing prevalence of Auto-Tune in commercial music, which was more often utilized to cover up voice deficiencies than as a guitar effect pedal substitute. As a lead artist, he made four more entries into the pop Top Ten between 2012 and the guest-loaded albums Epiphany, Thr33 Ringz, and the RCA-supported rEVOLVEr, the standout of which was “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’).” With his contributions to songs like Pitbull’s “Hey Baby (Drop It to the Floor),” Jamie Foxx’s “Blame It,” Chris Brown’s “Kiss Kiss,” and Kanye West’s “Good Life,” his name was featured prominently more frequently. Furthermore, “Blame It” and “Good Life” helped T-Pain win two Grammy Awards. Best Rap Song went to the former, and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals to the latter.

Loss of consciousness
In 2014, Happy Hour: The Greatest Hits, an anthology featuring all five of T-Pain’s platinum songs as a lead artist, served as more evidence of his enduring commercial appeal. A new song created to accompany the performance, “Up Down (Do This All Day),” went platinum and became the singer’s sixth platinum-selling headlining single. Although a fifth album, tentatively named Stoicville, was in the works, T-Pain had only released songs by mid-2017, including joint albums with Young M.A., Lil Yachty, and Juicy J. But in November of that year, he released Oblivion, his final album for RCA, which was joyously hedonistic and featured hits by Blac Youngsta and Tiffany Evans.

1UP
After signing with the independent Cinematic Music Group, he swiftly made a comeback the following year with his first mixtapes to be released commercially, Everything Must Go, Vol. 1 and Everything Must Go, Vol. 2. Following his announcement as the winner of Fox’s The Masked Singer’s first season, T-Pain released his sixth official full-length album, 2019’s 1Up, which performed better on the Billboard 200 than Oblivion. Subsequently, in the same year, Tory Lanez used a sample of “I’m Sprung” for “Jerry Sprunger,” a pop success that peaked at number 44 and featured T-Pain. RCA released The Lost Remixes in 2020, and T-Pain kept releasing singles like “Wake Up Dead,” which was another song she co-wrote with Chris Brown.

His laboriously produced covers album On Top of the Covers was released in 2023. Among the eight genre-spanning tracks on the album were T-Pain’s covers of songs by Journey, Black Sabbath, Sam Smith, and other artists. He made a triumphant comeback in early 2024 with the ballad “Dreaming.”
