One of the most important rappers working today is Terrence LeVarr Thornton, better known by his stage name Pusha T. He was raised in Virginia Beach after being born in the Bronx. In 1992, Thornton started his musical career as a member of the rap group Clipse alongside his sibling No Malice. Both of their Neptunes-produced albums, Lord Willin’ (2002) and Hell Hath No Fury (2006), are regarded as genre masterpieces that enhance the lyrical content and musical range of street rap. After their third studio album, 2009’s ‘Til the Casket Drops, they started Re-Up Records and put out a few mixtapes before splitting up to pursue solo careers. Thornton has put out three studio albums on G.O.O.D. Music and Def Jam Recordings since joining Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music in 2010. Daytona, his solely Kanye West-produced album from 2018, is maybe his best and most coherent work to date.

Pusha T spoke on collaborating with Kanye West, the competitive nature of rap, creating Daytona, leading G.O.O.D. Music, and the early years of the Clipse in Virginia Beach during his public lecture at RBMA Berlin 2018.
