King Von emerged as a prominent figure in Chicago’s drill rap scene in 2018. His breakthrough came with “Crazy Story,” a vivid narrative of a botched robbery that went viral. The accompanying music video amassed over 50 million views on WorldStarHipHop’s YouTube channel. Lil Durk, who signed Von to his Only The Family (OTF) label, later remixed the track.

In September 2019, Von released his debut mixtape, “Grandson, Vol. 1,” under OTF. The album charted at #37 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and #75 on the Billboard 200.

Von’s style is characterized by rapid-fire delivery and storytelling. While reserved in interviews, his music is energetic and aggressive, often featuring detailed and sometimes violent narratives. In 2019, Von relocated to Atlanta, following Lil Durk, to further his career and distance himself from Chicago’s violence.

However, both rappers faced legal troubles in June 2019, arrested for an alleged robbery and shooting from February that year. They were released months later, with the case status unclear. Von quickly returned to music, dropping his second mixtape, “Levon James,” on March 6, 2020. This project featured collaborations with artists like YNW Melly, NLE Choppa, and Booka 600.
